There’s an episode of 30 Rock in which Dennis, a particular clueless occasional character, says “technology’s cyclical, right?”
Which, of course, it isn’t. Fashion is, music can be, but not technology.
Except sometimes.
To begin with, allow me to apologise to the cool people. To my friends, the Hipsters. I recognise how intolerable people jumping on board an idea, trend or phenomenon long after you’ve loved it can be, particularly when they prattle on as though they’re the ones who just discovered it.
Moreso in this case, where I’m espousing my love for something that leapt into popularity 90 years ago. But I’m not writing about ‘why vinyl is great’, I’m writing about why I’ve fallen for it now. So allow me to ‘prattle’. Let me, for a moment, ‘espouse’.
